One of the goals of Ottawaplaces.ca is to gather images that define our neighbourghoods and nearby towns. Whether that's Westboro, Gatineau Park, downtown, Stittsville or Kingston -- each of our neighbourhoods or municpalities nearby have defining images that we recognize. They become anchors to the communities that we live in and help us feel rooted and connected. Imagine a set of three smaller black and white framed images that captures this for you. Or perhaps a large colour sweeping landscape.
When it comes to printing, whether it's an image from this site or others, you have options.
For this site, the goal over time is to present images from around this region, allowing people to get local art prints or downloads. Images of various types, whether it's a place, a theme, a colour or other -- it's taken locally by a local photographer.
For many images here, downloading a hi-res JPG is sufficient for printing online at Posterjack or CanvasPop. Ottawaplaces.ca stores hi-res versions of the lo-res versions you see on the site. That makes it easy to get one or more to you if you decide to order.
They can then be printed and framed as you like. They should work fine on the wall when using Posterjack or CanvasPop but there is a catch.
This is a very early ALPHA/BETA release of ottawaplaces.ca. There is a lot more to come, each month. For now, the about page says a fair bit.
I developed this site using the laravel framework so it's custom coded and unique to the Ottawa / Gatineau areas, as are the photos, with the intention of capturing wall worthy photos of various types. I am also adding more tools for photographers, so the site is for enthusiasts also as we are a community.
I like the concept of photo-sets, e.g. I like to think about three smaller framed images from various neighbourhoods that depict a theme or elements of the places we live that we relate to. If a photo on this site is included in a photo set, it is shown below the image itself. Fun!
