I live in Ottawa and my camera goes away for far too long, so I created this site to keep me motivated to get out with my camera. Can you relate? If so, join in -- by shooting hi-res (large enough for the wall) photos that you post-process and refine so that it is print-ready!
Shot locally, showing the elements of the neighbourhoods we live in, anchoring us to where we live, or perhaps a still life image (shot in home studio) that fits an interest or theme.
Why join in? There are thousands of amateur photographers within a 150km to 200km radius of Ottawa/Gatineau. You have the gear, you know how to edit, maybe you've taken a course or two, and you want to improve by taking more photos, the kind you like. Post your best here.
Although it's called Ottawaplaces, still life compositions (indoors) are welcome, as are any type of image that might be wall worthy. As long as it's taken locally and that could be within Ottawa, Gatineau, Kingston, the Ottawa Valley and beyond. Country theme, city theme, landscape, still life photos of all kinds -- you don't have to go on vacation to take some great pics (although vacation is nice).
Every photo also has learning info attached, i.e. a map, and all the camera settings, along with the photographer's notes. So you can go create that image yourself if you like. As the collection grows, with mini-lessons built into each image, photography enthusiasts can go to that location and "take that shot". As photographers, we all want to be able to take a certain kind of photograph that we are proud of -- and maybe even gets framed.
If you do submit an image, it will show up on your profile page (lo-res version, and you retain rights). Your very own artist's portfolio that promotes your accepted imagery here where we live. Just email me and let's discuss how you'd like to participate, and I'll set it up so you can post.
Since a hi-res version of each photo is stored (privately) by the site, I created the option for others to purchase (download) an image for between $5 and $25 as set by the photographer, if they think it's a photot that someone else may like to print.
So you have a great camera, you have taken a course or two, have the photo bug and you know about things like camera RAW, ISO, Adobe RGB, aperature and exposure, print ready, and so on. You've used photoshop or Lightroom to edit, and if you want to keep challenging yourself - then let me know! If you don't have that proficiency yet, I suggest taking a course locally (Henry's, SPAO, online) or just practice a lot. Or email me and we can discuss or do a photo-walk. I am in the same boat, practicing when I can, learning as I go. Images submitted here should be hi-res for print in case of a sale (300 dpi) however only lo-res versions are shown on the site to protect your rights. Hi-res versions are kept in storage in case someone orders one. You earn a large percentage of the sale and the contributor page explains more.
