The sky might look like this as the nukes drop? One can visit the Diefenbunker and descend deep underground to see what life would have been like (hell) if a nuke hit Ottawa in the cold war. Lots of dreary 60s furniture, certainly not built for comfort. But since I like landscapes, I chose for the first time to do a walk around the grounds, where they've built a nice walking trail with depictions of all the above ground artifacts on a sign you can read, while looking out over the fields below in a serene setting that is the countrsyside of Carp. Shown here is one of the air filters, now long past it's ability to function, however, in the day -- if a blast were detected -- all outside air would have been shut off within miliseconds. It's worth visiting the Diefenbunker, but on this Spring day as the dandelions were in bloom against the greenest of grass, I sat on one of the benches and just felt the serenity and quiet of the grounds, unlike how it would be to see the scene as pictured, just after a cold war nuke on the city. Are we safer now from nukes or not, take a walk here and think about it.
